About Photo Stream Assistant

Photo Stream Assistant is an independent Mac app for managing a Flickr library, built by Stéphane Monier for his own: about 138,000 photos, which is the size at which the Flickr website stops being a place you can work. It is sold on the Mac App Store, free with a one-time Pro Unlock, and it is not affiliated with Flickr or SmugMug.

Why it exists

Flickr shows a library twenty-five photos at a time, offers no way to rename a tag across every photo that carries it, and has no view of what a library is missing. None of that is a problem at a thousand photos. At a hundred thousand, every correction becomes an afternoon. The app started as a way to do those corrections once, to a selection, and grew screen by screen from there.

How it treats your account

• It signs in with your own Flickr account, through Flickr's own sign-in inside the app, and talks only to Flickr's API.
• Your Flickr API key, secret and sign-in token stay on your Mac. There is no server of ours in between, no account to create with us, and no analytics inside the app.
• The only thing it writes outside Flickr is a backup, into a folder you choose, on your own disk.
• Where Flickr limits something - downloads, tag renames, per-day statistics - the app says so rather than pretending otherwise. The FAQ lists those limits.
